Diabetes mellitus, more commonly known as diabetes, is a group of metabolic disorders, in which the patient has blood sugar levels. Symptoms of high blood sugar levels are-frequent urination, excessive thirst and polyuria or polydipsia and increased hunger or hyperphagia.
Disease of diabetes is of three types-type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent diabetes) happens due to failure of the body to produce insulin and require the person to inject insulin. Diabetes type 2 is a result of insulin resistance. In this type, the cells are unable to use insulin properly and is known as diabetes non-insulin-dependent or adult-onset diabetes. Gestational diabetes in which a pregnant woman, who had never previously have diabetes, blood glucose levels high during pregnancy. Diabetes can also include congenital diabetes (a genetic disease), diabetes, cystic fibrosis, steroid diabetes caused by high doses of glucocorticoids and various forms of monogenic diabetes.
At least 171 million people worldwide suffer from diabetes, or 2.8% of the population. Diabetes type 2 is by far the most common and is a silent killer.
In ayurvedic medicine, cow urine was used in the preparation of medicines for centuries. Recent scientific studies promise to give hope to millions of diabetic patients in the country and the world.
A three-member team of researchers in Bangalore, headed by Dr. k. Jayakumar, Professor and head of the Department of Pharmacology and toxicology of the Veterinary College in Karnataka veterinary, animal and fisheries Sciences University, found that the cow urine contains some molecules that can treat diabetes. The team is in the final stages to identify the molecule which secretes insulin. This is the first ever scientific study on cow urine and its properties and these results may change the treatment of diabetes in India. Professor k. Jayakumar says that the anti-diabetic activity of cow urine was tested on rats that were experimentally induced diabetes. These mice were administered orally to small doses of cow urine every day and there was a noticeable difference in the levels of blood sugar in these animals, whereas in the case of those diabetic rats, which have not been administered cow urine sugar levels remained the same. The professor said that are looking to find that, if insulin levels rise on rats were the result of a cow urine, stimulating pancreatic beta cells, as in the case of oral anti-diabetic agents currently available on the market, or if the cow urine has stimulated the regeneration of beta cells of the pancreas.
In their search, they found that the urine from cows has anti-diabetic properties and are trying to analyze the particular molecule.
Cow urine contains several elements that are present in our body and required by our body. It tries to balance the elements if they are more or less then re establishing the balance for a healthy body. Is able to cure a series of illnesses, including skin diseases of diabetes , and gastrointestinal disorders etc.
